Our wonderful Warden is Emma Bagley

  • What does a warden do? The Warden’s main role is to help ensure that every student enjoys their time living in Halls. This means that I am responsible for the welfare, health & safety and also sometimes the discipline of the students in my care.

  • What made you want to be a warden? I really enjoy working with students. I spent ten years as a teacher in secondary schools and really miss working with students and helping and supporting them achieve their full potential. I particularly missed the pastoral side of teaching and being able to make a real difference in students’ lives. Being a warden means that I get to work with over 260 amazing students, plus, I get to slightly relive my student days by getting involved in Action, Rag… And the occasional student social night out!

  • What are you most looking forward to during freshers? Meeting all the students! I am also really looking forward to the sing-off. I really want The Holt to win!

  • Have you got any valuable life lessons? (In terms of what not to do when out drinking)  Never go out on an empty stomach.

  • What is your favourite night out in Loughborough? Why?  I like good food and wine… So it’s Browns every time for me.

  • Favourite hangover food? Bacon sandwiches made with toast and brown sauce. Plus loads of coffee!!

  • Your go-to fancy dress outfit?  – Eek! It’s got to be superheroes. Wonder Woman every time.

  • How many drinks can you handle? I am a hard core wine drinker… Challenge me :)

  • Cats or dogs? Tea or coffee? Dogs. Coffee.

  • Your go-to dance move? I’ve usually had too much wine to remember what dance moves I’ve made.

  • What was the last picture you took on your phone? Of my children.

  • If you could go for dinner with any person (dead or alive) who would you choose and why? This is a very difficult question. I would probably say Karen Brady. I admire her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to her family. But on a lighter hearted note, I would really like to have James Martin cook for me. I love his food and I also like Yorkshire men!

  • What is your favourite way to spend your free time? Running, spending time with family and friends, drinking wine and making and eating cake.

  • What would be the best gift someone could give you? This is another difficult question! I would like the gift of health & happiness for me and my family. But realistically, it would have to be a cockapoo. I’m desperate for a dog at the moment.

  • If you could wake up tomorrow as someone else, who would you choose and what would you do? Victoria Beckham! I would love to wake up next to David Beckham and be able to choose clothes and make-up from her wardrobe. Bliss!

The Warden Team organises events such as High tables and Holternative Wednesday. A High Table is a meal out, provided by the wardens for your block. Holternative Wednesday is an alternative event held in the common room, with free biscuits, tea and coffee and the chance to talk to and meet new people in a comfortable environment.
